Accelerate With Ford

August 29, 2008

Ah yes, another sleepless night - or rather nights - of staying up late and working on another film. This time, I’m trying to win a bid with Ford Motors to do their short film contest and to win the promo project for their 2010 Mustang.

Ford MustangIronically, it wasn’t too long ago (well back in Nov of 2007) I was working on producing a new web series that revolved around the 2008 Mustang. But when I found out that the new Knight Rider movie was coming out in early 2008, I’ve decided to shelf my project. It wasn’t because that my story was about a super computer car, it just seem that NBC had the resources to do a bigger and better Mustang movie.

So, when I found out about this particular competition, I’ve decided to give it a whirl and work on the script. Hopefully, my script will be chosen as ONE of the 20 to produce the first short film. Ultimately, I want that bigger project that FORD is dangling over our heads. So I guess I will see what happens next week.

I just hope that I didn’t jinx it by blogging about it! Otherwise, I’ll just produce it on my own…

48HOUR Film Project

August 14, 2008

No James DeanIt’s official, I’ve completed and screened my film for the 48HOUR FILM PROJECT here in Miami. Let me say that it was an exhausting experience, but a great experience. It’s been a truly test of skills and creativity to see whether or not I was able to pull off such a task within 48 hours. If you want to know more about the festival and contest, check out: 48HOUR FILM PROJECT.

But honestly, this is a great lesson in developing and really thinking things through to get the proper quality footage’s. Organization is the key. And it’s really hard when you have to depend on yourself.

What was really interesting was that I ended up doing the Robert Rodriguez thing. Being the one man - do it all thing. Not only did I have to write the script, organize the production, manned the camera, edit the footages, I even had to score the tracks.

While the end product sounded fairly simple, just tinkering on the piano for hours drove me nuts. Oh btw, editing footages and doing post production on a laptop is definitely a suck. I need to upgrade… but then again, I did the best that I could with what I had.

More importantly, regardless of what some people might think or say of the finished product - I’m actually quite proud of the short film I made. Considering the limited resources and time I had. And in a way, it was nice to prove that I can make a film from start to finish. Let’s just hope I can apply that to a featured film.

You are welcome watch the clip, along with the Behind The Scenes.  » No James Dean
